IREA  is a research institute offering pedagogical scientific and academic support in the field of AE. Current tasks of the IREA are:

a) Providing information, documentation and materials to researchers and practitioners;
b) Providing also services in order to ameliorate the co-operation between academic and practical field of AE;
c) Developing in Romania a theoretical and practical support for AE;
d) Organising conferences, workshops, seminars and working groups as a context of dissemination and crystallisation of research results coming from other similar organisations, both national and international, governmental and non-governmental;
e) Publishing books and materials relating to theoretical and practical issues of AE;
f) Initiating and conducting research work;
g) Initiating and conducting a national working group that should re-unite the most important actors in the field of adult and continuing education, from the theoretical and practical perspective, in order to achieve a more efficient co-ordination of the activities proposed by IREA at national level;
h) Developing an international activity in order to promote the Romanian AE abroad and to initiate international partnerships.

Thus IREA has conducted a lot of research projects (e.g. a Grundvig project “The Development of the Psycho-pedagogical Counselling Services”- DPPC, where the competency profile, as well as the concept of training the counsellors were designed) and have developed theoretical books and practical materials for the practitioners in AE, or carried out further training seminars.

IREA will be the co-ordinator of the project, and the co-ordinator of the Work block 1 (Project management)
